MINSK, 2 December (BelTA) – Some $92 million was returned to the country's budget thanks to the efficient work of the Financial Monitoring Department of the State Control Committee of Belarus in 2018, Director of the Financial Monitoring Department of the State Control Committee Vyacheslav Reut told the media, BelTA has learned.

“Over the past years we have considerably increased the efficiency of our work thanks to well-developed cooperation with different countries. In 2018, the law enforcement bodies of Belarus returned some $92 million to the country's budget, including thanks to the information from our foreign colleagues. In 2017, this figure stood at $94 million. This is much higher than what we had several years ago,” Vyacheslav Reut said.

These results were obtained without increasing the department staff, he said. At the same time, the number of cases about suspicious financial transactions sent to law enforcement agencies has been reducing.

The work of the Financial Monitoring Department of the State Control Committee is also highly appreciated at the international level. For example, Belarus shared 2-4 places with China and Russia in the competition for the best investigation of money laundering cases, the results of which were announced last week. The first place went to Kyrgyzstan.

“Our task is not to hamper honest business but to keep out those whose work is illegal,” Vyacheslav Reut noted.
