Tataritsky elected deputy chairman of UNECE working party on standardization policies

MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) - Chairman of the Belarusian State Committee for Standardization Valentin Tataritsky was elected deputy chairman of the UNECE Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies at a meeting in Geneva, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Committee for Standardization.

Chairman and his deputies are re-elected every two years, as defined by the UNECE procedures. Valentin Tataritsky will exercise his powers in 2020-2021.

The 29th meeting of the working party is running in Geneva on 20-22 November. The participants will review a report on the project to increase the use of voluntary standards in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, an initiative to include gender responsive standards and the performance of the group of experts in regulatory risk management.

Participants will also discuss the work plan for 2019-2020, and the areas of work on market supervision and international cooperation.

Currently, the UNECE has 56 member states. The Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization is a member of the Steering Committee on Trade Capacity and Standards. Belarus' participation in the working party's meetings contributes to the use of generally accepted regulatory practices and approaches in the country and in the Eurasian Economic Union, reducing technical barriers to trade.
