The assessment of Belarus' parliamentary elections by the observers of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights is not entirely objective, Sergei Lebedev, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, head of the CIS observation mission, said.
Belarus wants to see the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to grow into full-scale economic union, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media after the ministerial meeting in Moscow on 18 November as he commented on Belarus' forthcoming EAEU presidency.
Belarus takes a principled position on the issue of sanctions: it is only the UN Security Council that has the mandate of imposing them, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media.
Andrei Savinykh added that he did not mean that all the OSCE member states have such a position. “Rather, these are traditional and significantly outdated approaches of a number of Western countries,” he said.
Vladimir Makei went on saying: “We have repeatedly stated our interest in advancing an equal and mutually respectful dialogue with NATO. Such a dialogue could secure higher transparency and predictability of military operations in Europe."
“An important event took place in Belarus yesterday – the parliamentary elections. I would like to use this opportunity to congratulate our Belarusian friends on their successful conduct,” Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov said.
The MP said: “And then there is Belarus, which is seen as some kind of a testing ground, with everyone lecturing us on how to live. It is time to push back, time to show their place to the observers and other people, who believe they can blatantly interfere and break our laws.”
The decision on the Belarusian-Russian agreement on mutual visa recognition can be taken in the near future, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media after the joint ministerial meeting in Moscow on 18 November.
The Belarusian parliamentary delegation led by Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich will take part in the events of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in St Petersburg on 21-22 November.
