MINSK, 8 October (BelTA) – Small countries should assert themselves in front of great powers. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the statement in his speech during the Minsk Dialogue forum “European security: Stepping back from the brink” on 8 October, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko remarked that countries are often classified as large, medium, and small ones. “There are no countries like that. All nations are great even if there are only one thousand people in a nation,” Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced. “We are beautifully separated, dragged from one side to another. And we get lost among these giants. It is time for us to unite our voices and tell the ‘great ones' that they are not that great.” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that even large and powerful countries are very vulnerable in the modern world. He reminded about Saudi Arabia, which oil industry installations were recently attacked with drones.

“This is why you shouldn't hide behind the curtain of greatness and similar terms. You should come to an agreement. If we could genuinely band together on some platform, we would be heard. But then the ‘great ones' don't let us – the medium and small countries – do it because the great formula ‘divide and rule' has not outlived its usefulness and will hardly ever do,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
