MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko spoke in positive terms about the performance of the agricultural industry in 2019 as he talked to journalists after casting his vote in the parliamentary election on 17 November, BelTA informs.

“The year was good. Not ideal, but good,” the head of state said. “It was better than the previous year. You know that I had to make very tough decisions. For example, such a loss of cattle is inadmissible.”

According to the head of state, the basis of the new harvest is being made right now. “We have done a lot during the year to build the foundation of agriculture – farms, engine yards, grain storage facilities, roads, social and cultural facilities,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.

The president said that Belarus exports $5 billion worth of agricultural produce, and the demand is increasing. “If Russia has not decided yet whether they need our products or not, it's okay. We will export more to the Chinese market. I have been to the UAE, they are interested and invest in our agriculture. Food will always be in demand, and this demand is on the rise. Therefore, this is a win-win situation,” the Belarusian leader is convinced.

In his words, it is still necessary to improve many things in rural areas, and the situation in Vitebsk Oblast will be discussed in the future. “When I start thinking about the resolution of issues in the agricultural industry tomorrow, it is difficult. I mean that a president is not a king in Belarus and cannot rest in laurels. I have to do a lot of things,” Aleksandr Lukashenko concluded.
